My city
As I mentioned,I live in Dubnica nad Váhom. It is the nice city laying in Považie. Dubnica has about 26,000 inhabitants.
The oldest written document about Dubnica comes from 1193.
The another message about Dubnica is from the year 1276. It is important because
There is mentioned the Saint Jacobs´church, that is why it is so important. There is only a few villages that have documented the existence of church from 13th century.
At the end of 16th century became Štefan Illesházy the owner of dubnica nad Váhom.
Štefan probably planned to create economic and housing centrum of his nobility. He did not manage to do that because of political situation and his death.
He was useful for Dubnica in many ways. He built a new church anng gained a right to organize one fair in the year on the Saint Veronika´s day and every Tuesday market, and during his reign Dubnica was elevated on town.
The prime gained Dubnica during Jozef Ileshazy.
There were many important people that came from Dubnica, e.g.
Štefan Dubnicai (1675-1712), Ján Baltazár Magin (1681-1755), Andrej Mesárosz(1776-1804), František Xaver Hábel (1760-1812), Michal Rešetka (1819-1834)

Halloween
All Saints Day is a very old catholic holiday. We remind our relatives and friends who are dead now on this day. We visit a cemetery to pray for their souls.
But there is another celebration that is more famous and its called Halloween. It is pagan celebration. It was called Samhain, the Celtic New Year
On the 31th of october used Celts to dress up in frightening costumes to frighten evil spirits, which were looking for bodies.
On November 2, All Souls Day, Christians walked from village to village begging for "soul cakes," that were made of pieces of bread with currants. The more soul cakes the beggars would receive, the more prayers they would promise to say on behalf of the dead relatives of the donors.
The Jack-o-lantern custom probably comes from Irish folklore. As it is is told, a man named Jack, who was an alcoholic tricked Satan to climb a tree. Jack then carved a cross in the tree's trunk, trapping the devil up the tree. Jack made a deal with the devil that, if he would never tempt him again, he would promise to let him down the tree.
